With Dvora Yanow she is coeditor of the Routledge Series on Interpretive Methods, and their coauthored Interpretive Research Design: Concepts and Processes (2012) is the first volume in the series. They have been collaborating on institutional review board policy research since 2006.
Professor Schwartz-Shea served on the American Political Science Association Ad Hoc Committee on Human Subjects Research (2017-2020); committee was charged with articulating ethical principles for research with human participants, see https://connect.apsanet.org/hsr/principles-and-guidance/. She currently serves on the American Political Science Review Advisory Board for Research Ethics. Her primary research interest concerns the problematic effects of the US IRB regulatory system on social science research, particularly on interpretive and critical research.
