As a Senior Consultant with Australasian Human Research Ethics Consultancy Services, Mark works on institutional policy and practice in relation to research ethics and research integrity, reviewing current and developing new organisational policies, procedures, processes, resource material and professional development plans. His books include Research Ethics and Integrity for Social Scientists: Beyond Regulatory Compliance (Sage, 2015). His recent publications consider the development of human research ethics policy in upper-middle income countries, ethics and patient and public involvement in research, and the experiences of international students applying for ethics review in Australia.

Mark has been or is a member of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council’s Working Party responsible for revision of Section 3 of the National Statement on ethical conduct in research, the National Ethics Application Form Advisory Group and the Harmonisation of Multi-Centre Ethical Review Education (HoMER) sub-group. He has undertaken research ethics and integrity-related consultancy for, among others, the National Health and Medical Research Council in Australia, Australian Federal and State governments, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, NGOs, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and universities in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, and the United Kingdom. He also acts as an ethics reviewer and rapporteur for the European Research Council.
