Birte is a Peace and Conflict Studies scholar with research interests in three main areas: (1) everyday economic dimensions of international interventions, (2) the arts in peace and conflict  and (3) the ethics of knowledge production in conflict-affected societies. She has contributed to these fields through co-editing three books. "Economies of Peace," (Routledge, 2019), "The Companion to Peace and Conflict Fieldwork," (Palgrave, 2021), and "The Art of Peace Formation" (Edinburgh University Press, 2024). Currently, she is the Principal Investigator on the British Academy project "Re-ordering Ethics and Knowledge Production in Conflict- and Disaster-Affected Contexts" (2023-2025).
